Updated Color Curriculum Available
We are very excited to announce that we have improved and enhanced the Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute Curriculum! The biggest change to our curriculum is its new look. We took the contents of the old curriculum and laid it out in an easier to read format and put it in color. In addition, the following modules have been updated and improved:

• Introduction to Community Service now has two supplemental pieces. One is a visual and experiential activity called "World of Service" and the other is a fun quiz called "Volunteerism? Or Service Learning? Or.". Additionally, some of the general information in this section has been updated.
• Diversity now has a supplemental piece called "Diversity Island". This exercise can be delivered before or after "Barnga" depending on your preference.
• Community Mapping has been rewritten in its entirety. The objectives of this module have remained the same, however, the exercise of exploring issues and resources in the community is more interactive and engaging.
• Forming a Problem Statement has been rewritten in its entirety. The objectives of this module have remained the same, however the process utilized to achieve the end goal is easier to understand and it is easier to deliver.

Changes to the Current Curriculum
The following changes have been made to the curriculum. Certified trainers should have received these changes through the mail. July 1998-changes were made to the following modules:

• National Service 101-changed to "Introduction to Community Service"
• Community Mapping-an additional section was added on "Identifying Community Needs"

 

Supplemental Curriculum Available
The following supplemental curriculum modules have been developed for use in The Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute. Available in MS Word format.

• Planning and Organizing-"Action Planning Arrow" developed by The Points of Light Foundation.
• Community Project Goal Setting-"Goal Setting Worksheet" developed by The Points of Light Foundation.
• Reflection-A list of resources for developing effective reflection activities, and sample reflection activities, developed by The Points of Light Foundation.
